Holiday home vacation in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

With regard to summer holidays, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern ranks among the most popular German federal states. This is primarily because two of Germany’s most beautiful holiday regions are located here with the Baltic Sea coast and the Mecklenburg Lake District, which promise a variety of possibilities for a great holiday with the whole family – particularly during the summer months. atraveo offers you over 3000 holiday homes and apartments in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Is your dream holiday home also there? Find out and take a look at the offers along the coast and inland at your leisure.

Picturesque and worth seeing - the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern coast

The Baltic Sea coast of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern extends over a thousand kilometres from the Bay of Wismar via the Darss-Zingst Bodden Chain to the Szczecin Lagoon. Several larger and smaller places promise perfect holiday delights along the white sandy beaches, while the good infrastructure and many leisure possibilities go one step further to ensure that you can really feel comfortable here. Kühlungsborn, Heiligendamm and Warnemünde, inter alia, rank among the most well-known seaside resorts. Rerik and Boltenhagen are, however, also particularly popular with atraveo customers. The old Hanseatic towns along the coast offer possibilities for one excursion or another. Whether it‘s Rostock, Stralsund, Greifswald or Wismar – in all these places today, you can still sense the great maritime past, which has survived in the harbours and several beautiful buildings in red brick Gothic style, among others. In this context, one discovery tour or another to the many old castles and stately manor houses, which you can find all over Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, is also recommended.

Colourful and romantic – the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern islands

The Baltic Sea islands of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are also particularly popular for a holiday home vacation. Rügen is not only the largest of them, but for atraveo customers, also has the edge over all the German islands in the popularity stakes. Rügen delights numerous holidaymakers year after year with the Baltic Sea resorts of Binz, Sellin, Göhren and Baabe, the piers and scenic highlights such as the chalk cliffs and the steep coasts at Cape Arkona. Usedom, the most eastern German island at the Szczecin Lagoon, is also, however, at least as popular. You can find beautiful places here too and the pier at the Baltic Sea resort of Heringsdorf invites you to take a romantic stroll as the sun goes down.

It is very pleasant to head off to the little island of Poel in the middle of the Bay of Wismar. Here you can really let yourself relax away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The same is also promised by the small car-free island of Hiddensee, which you can also visit within the scope of a day trip.

Fischland-Darß-Zingst is not a true island, but rather a peninsula.

Magical and multi-faceted – the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern lakes

The Mecklenburg Lake District lies in the hinterland of the coast and extends to the German federal state of Brandenburg. The many hundred large and small lakes, which are surrounded by thick forests and are connected to each other by age-old canals, form a unique holiday region in Germany. There is a variety of leisure possibilities on offer – from hiking and cycling along the lakes and through the forests, via swimming and various water sports possibilities, to an exciting canoe boat tour with the whole family. The largest lake, at which you will also find the most holiday homes on atraveo, is the Müritz. However, the other lakes – such as the Plauer See, the Kummerower See or the Tollensesee are also worth discovering. It is also very pleasant at the Schweriner See, which is famous for its castle and where the namesake provincial capital of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is located.

Tips for arrival at the holiday home in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is easily accessible by car via the motorway network. The A24 runs between Hamburg and Berlin as one of the important access routes in the south of the federal state. From here, towards the coast, the A14 branches off to Wismar and the A19 to Rostock. The A14 leads past Schwerin and the A19 runs directly via the Mecklenburg Lake District. In the north, both motorways meet on the A20, which runs from Lübeck to Greifswald, parallel to the coast, so all the coastal towns and islands can be easily reached via the A roads from here. The islands are conveniently connected to the mainland by bridges or causeways, so a crossing by ferry is unnecessary.

Arrival by the train is also possible. ICE or intercity trains have regular services to all major towns and you can even to take the train directly to the islands of Rügen and Usedom. Well-developed regional transport also connects the smaller places. Nevertheless, it is essential that you ensure easy arrival at the holiday home before commencing the journey.
