This is how holiday rental owners described Castellammare del Golfo

Castellammare del Golfo was born as an emporium of the city of Segesta, the site where the ancient people of the Elimi practiced their trade with foreign ships.

In perpetual conflict with the Greeks of nearby Selinunte - with whom he hired often bloody battles - the increasingly important center ...

elimo orbit around the Carthaginian power that made one of the most important emporium Segestano fortified stations of the northern basin of Sicily.

Decline of the star greek island, the Carthaginian power had, therefore, compete with other and far more bitter enemies: the Romans. The Punic Wars, in fact, were the last act of the story of Carthage and, therefore, also the ancient emporium of Segesta not. The winners, in fact, fully understand the importance, the repopulated, preserving and strengthening their military characteristics.

Arabs were entailed in the middle - renamed Al Madarig: “the stairs".

The subsequent Norman and Swabian - between 1071 and 1280 - little news came to us, but it is likely that they have further and better fortified Cerri that with the construction of the fortress on the sea, the sea began to be called Castle.

It must, however, the Aragonese - where the city came after Vespers - the final version of the mighty fortress.

In the Aragonese period (1281 - 1410), so the town was owned by land baron Frederick of Antioch and became an important commercial center of the grain bound for export.
The further development of Castellammare del Golfo - with mixed success, which retained its status of the port - is finally to be ascribed to the period from the seventeenth to the nineteenth century, when the city saw a growing, significant development.

Castellammare Today, thanks to a priceless heritage, consisting of extraordinary natural beauty of its coastline and its hinterland has become a major tourist attraction, a lot can offer its visitors, such as the old fishing village of Scopello with its trap and its Faraglioni, the coast is characterized by golden sandy beaches to the east, indented with coves and pristine reefs to the west as (the bay of Guidaloca, Calabianca, Calarossa, Faraglioni of Scopello and the Zingaro Natural Reserve, full of beautiful bays, trails and beaches of pebbles and sand that are mirrored in a pristine sea, clear and calm.

Also not to forget the thermal baths of Segesta, whose waters are classified as hyperthermal, sulfur, highly mineralized, play an important therapeutic action.

The first Natural Reserve of Zingaro, established in Sicily, includes a stretch of about 7 km of unspoilt coastline and beautiful, it overlooks the Gulf of Castellammare and the chain of mountains, small coves and impressive cliffs to the sea, is the magnificent setting.
Important for the great richness of rare and endemic plants, the “Zingaro” is perhaps more from the animal point of view: the existence of very different ecological niches allows for a high diversity of fauna not found elsewhere on the island.

At the Zingaro, in fact nesting and breeding at least 39 species of birds, mostly raptors, including peregrine falcons, buzzards and the ghepio.

The area of the Reserve is also of great archaeological importance as the spectacular “Uzzo cave” was located one of the first prehistoric settlements in Sicily. Superbly organized in terms of enjoyment (trails with precise directions, shelters, water points, picnic areas, museums, etc ... motorcycle parking spaces).

It is possible to visit the reserve on foot only, not existential driveways into streets, there are different paths such as path, sea mountains, high-Zingaro.

Sea and Nature. Driving along State Road 187 from Castellammare to Trapani we move now to the village of Scopello, cross a landscape rich of coves rugged and high cliffs.
The characteristic of the place, that is immediately evident, are the Faraglioni of Scopello that rise steep and covered with vegetation. Below, in the beautiful cove between the rocks and the old towers, is the famous the tuna fishery, known since time immemorial, mentioned in documents dating back to 1200 and active until a few years ago, with the Baglio, buildings and warehouses.
From here, past the tonnara after a few kilometers you get to the Zingaro Nature Reserve: The only thing possible in front of the beautiful landscape of the Zingaro is surprising, at every step, for the breathtaking views.Rock Walls of limestone rise above a rich and flourishing vegetation, then to end rush headlong into a crystal sea.
Sea and Spa. Along the provincial road 187 which connects Castellammare to Segesta, about 7 km, we find the legendary Waters Segestane of straboniana memory: "Aegesta Siciliae urbis ubi calidae aquae." The place where the thermal waters gush and where tradition has it that were made arise from the Nymphs to regenerate Heracles when he arrived at Segesta after crossing Sicily from Cape Pelorus to the old street of Himera. The site does not fail to fascinate for its wild beauty, the uniqueness of the phenomenon of the "rigenerant" warm waters, for the significant archaeological interest that it is, as a whole.

Sea and history. Continuing along the provincial road 187 and following the slope of Mount Inici on the tracks of the ancient people of the Elymians, we arrive at Segesta, inserted into a system of rolling hills that surround its precious jewels: the Temple and the Theatre.
The Sicilian-Doric temple of the fifth century. A.C. is intact and majestically on a hill in the middle of a valley.
The greek theater of the second century. AC, excavated in the rock, overlooking from the top of Mount Barbaro.
In the splendid natural scenery created by the cliff on the Segesta valley , the theater becomes the "millennial scene for the classics of the world, where every two years, theater performances evoke the atmosphere of the past."
The Shrine of the IV-V century. B.C. complete the current design of the archaeological park of Segesta yet to be explored.
